Article Feature – The Unite Foundation ‘This is us’ – Creative Showcase Interview

Posted in 20/21, and Professional Research 2021

The Unite Foundation is a UK registered charitable trust founded by student accommodation provider Unite Students in 2012.

Unite Students has spent years helping young people thrive in new situations and help them manage the big ‘Leap’ to university life. … Founded in 1991 in Bristol, Unite Group is an award-winning Real Estate Investment Trust (REIT), listed on the London Stock Exchange and a member of the FTSE 250 Index.

As a student of the Unite Foundation scholarship, I was interested about the opportunity they were giving for creative individuals to showcase their work on their ‘This is us’ blog. After contacting Dannii Jones, I was given the opportunity to have my work featured in an article and asked some interview questions. The whole experience was very encouraging, and I’m glad students of the scholarship are given a creative voice and an opportunity for publicity.

This experience helped me to develop and enhance my interview skills and provided an opportunity to gain publicity within the local art community via social media.

“We’re the students on the Unite Foundation scholarship.

We believe being an estranged young person or care leaver shouldn’t mean being left behind and, through the scholarship, we’re being united with our futures through going to uni. This gives us a sense of equality and breeds bigger dreams, and that’s just what we deserve.”

As part of the interview, I explained what enjoyed about my practice and some of the techniques I was working with. It was nice to be asked about my thoughts on the creative community as it shows that the interviewer was thinking about others who are wanting to pursue a creative career in Leicester.

After answering the interview questions in an email, I was given positive feedback from Dannii and received a link to view the article.

Reece Hill is a Fine Art student and artist. His work is beautiful and perfect to write a feature on. I have asked him a few questions so we can all get to know him and his work!
